Common questions

Does the DPDP Act apply to my small business?

If you collect personal data of people in India digitally (names, phone numbers, emails, IDs, health records), it most likely applies. The government may relax some duties for startups and MSMEs, but basic consent, security and grievance handling are expected to stay.

What happens if I ignore it?

The Data Protection Board can impose penalties of up to ₹250 crore for serious failures, such as not taking reasonable security measures. Customers can also file complaints against you.
